5K Celebration : Girls on the Run Golden Isles
The event is a season-closing celebratory 5K that gives program participants a tangible sense of accomplishment. The council holds 5K events on April 18 and May 2, with the April date in McIntosh County and the May date in Glynn County. The 5K distance is 3.1 miles. Every program participant receives a commemorative medal.
The council describes the 5K as a noncompetitive, celebratory event. Typical completion times range from about 25 minutes for the fastest participants to 30–50 minutes for most. For safety, every participant must wear a race bib provided by the council, and each participant is assigned a running buddy who accompanies them for the entire course. The council monitors the course, conducts head counts, and trains staff and volunteers on its safety plan. Only critical 5K volunteers have access to confidential information.
Program participants are already registered for the 5K and do not need to register again. Family, friends, and community members may participate but must register and sign a liability waiver. The registration price will increase from $35 to $40. The council lists national partners and local sponsors that support the 5K. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
