Girls on the Run Central Kentucky 5K
The Girls on the Run Central Kentucky 5K is the closing event for the council's eight week program. It takes place at Keeneland in Lexington, KY on December 5, 2026. The event is the culmination of the season and provides a tangible sense of accomplishment for program participants; the council expects over 325 girls to cross the finish for their first 5K.
The 5K covers 3.1 miles and is presented as a celebratory, noncompetitive event. Every registered participant who completes the course receives a commemorative medal. The event includes additional activities such as face painting, happy hair stations, water stations, and merchandise for sale.
Accessibility and safety are highlighted. The course is accessible for people with disabilities and designated parking spots are available. All participants must wear a race bib provided by the council. Each participant is paired with a running buddy for the duration of the course; parents or guardians may serve as running buddies and this is encouraged. The council monitors the course, conducts head counts, and maintains a safety plan with trained staff and volunteers. Volunteers appointed through the council will undergo a background check.
Registration details note that program participants and coaches have already been registered. Non program participants pay published fees that increase four weeks before the event, and all registrants complete liability waivers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
