Girls on the Run Central Illinois 5K Celebration
The Fall 5K Presented by Memorial Health is a season closing event held at Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield, IL. The event is a celebratory, non-competitive 5K that gives Girls on the Run program participants a tangible sense of accomplishment. The council notes that an official 5K is 3.1 miles, but the current course at LLCC measures 2.9 miles.
Registered community participants who complete the 5K receive a commemorative medal and a race swag bag that includes a race shirt. Shirt sizes are only guaranteed for registrations completed by October 22. Program participants and coaches are already registered through the program and do not need to register again. Registration prices vary by date and age category, ranging from early bird adult and youth rates up to higher day of event rates.
The event includes additional activities such as temporary tattoos, happy hair stations, a Spirit Station with merchandise, and family-friendly booths. Safety measures include race bibs with medical information, first aid in the race village and on course, monitored course head counts, and a council safety plan. The course and event are described as accessible for participants who walk, run, push, or roll, and designated parking is available. No dogs are allowed on campus except service animals.
