About the race
Girls on the Run Central Illinois holds an end-of-season 5K Celebration that gives program participants a finishing event to mark their season. The fall 5K for 2026 is scheduled for November 14 at Lincoln Land Community College, 5250 Shepherd Rd., Springfield, IL 62703.
The event is framed as a celebratory, non-competitive experience and is open to program participants, family, friends, and community members. While an official 5K is 3.1 miles, the current course at Lincoln Land Community College measures 2.9 miles. Participants may walk, roll, push, run, or skip at their own pace; typical finish times range from about 30 to 50 minutes, with faster participants completing the course in around 25 minutes. Every registered community participant who completes the 5K receives a medal and a race swag bag that includes a race shirt. Shirt sizes are only guaranteed for registrations completed by October 22.
The event includes family-friendly activities, temporary tattoos, happy hair stations, booth sponsors, and other on-site elements. Designated parking and course accessibility are available for participants with disabilities. Dogs are not permitted on the college grounds except service animals present to perform disability-related tasks. The 5K is held rain or shine, with delays for thunder or lightning; registration fees are nonrefundable and are considered a donation to the nonprofit council.
