Girls on the Run Capital Region 5K Celebration
The Girls on the Run Capital Region 5K is the season-closing event for the council’s programs. It takes place at Jennings Landing in Albany, NY, and the course distance is 5K (3.1 miles). The event is not chip timed and is presented as a non-competitive, celebratory experience where participants complete the course at their chosen pace.
Registered participants who finish the 5K receive a commemorative finisher medal. A Running Buddy aged 16 or older must accompany each program participant for the full course. Community runners, Running Buddies, and youth community runners can register; online registration closes on November 7 and day-of registration is available at a higher fee. Commemorative 5K t-shirts are available for pre-purchase during registration through October 25.
Packet pickup for 5K Buddies will be available in advance at Fleet Feet in Albany (155 Wolf Road). Packets for girls and coaches are distributed on race day. The event is described as rain or shine, and designated accessible parking is provided. Pets are not allowed on the course or in the start and finish areas. The council maintains a safety plan, issues race bibs to all participants, and monitors the course during the event.
Volunteers support many roles on race day, including set up and tear down, registration, course marshals, water stations, merchandise, and cheer stations. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
