Upstate Classic - Altamont, NY
The Upstate Classic is a fall road-race event produced by ARE Event Productions in partnership with the Albany Running Exchange. The event is staged from the Altamont Fairgrounds near the base of the Helderberg Escarpment in rural Guilderland, New York.
Race offerings include:
- Half Marathon - USATF certified 13.1 mile loop course.
- 5K - out and back on Brandle Road using the first 1.55 miles of the longer course.
- Kids races - approximate Half Mile and One Mile held on the fairgrounds track.
The half marathon course crosses inactive railroad tracks on weekends and includes four staffed water stops with portable toilets at each stop. Runners are encouraged to carry their own water; cups are available but discouraged to reduce waste. The half marathon enforces a 16:00 per mile minimum pace and a full-course cut-off of 3:30; participants behind pace may be transported to the finish by course support.
Packet pick-up is offered at the AREEP office and at the Altamont Fairgrounds on race day. Entry fees are non-refundable unless registration insurance is purchased at registration; transfers are permitted for a processing fee through a specified deadline. Finishers in the half marathon receive medals; race photos and a post-race meal are provided. Results and live tracking are available, with timing splits typically at approximately 6.3 and 11.1 miles. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
