Girls on the Run 5K - Sparta

Girls on the Run New Jersey North holds an end-of-season 5K celebration at the Sussex County Fairgrounds in Augusta, NJ on November 15th, 2026. The event is a non-competitive closing activity that gives program participants a tangible sense of accomplishment; the course distance is 5K (3.1 miles) and participants are encouraged to walk, run, roll or push at their own pace.

Program participants are already registered by the council and do not need to register again. Registered participants who complete the 5K receive a commemorative medal; t-shirts are available to participants while supplies last. Family members and community participants may take part but must register separately. The event can be a site-based 5K at team practice locations, part of an external community 5K, or completed as a virtual 5K from a location of choice.

Safety measures include a required race bib for every participant, assignment of a Running Buddy to accompany participants on course, course monitoring with head counts, and a council safety plan that trains staff and volunteers for emergency response. Designated parking is available and the course is accessible for people with disabilities.

Volunteer roles include set-up and tear-down, registration, course marshalling, running buddies, water stations, cheer stations, and event activities such as happy hair or face painting.
