Ghost Train Trail Races
Ghost Train Trail Races take place along the Granite Town Rail Trail in Brookline and Milford, New Hampshire on October 17 and 18, 2026. The event is organized as a fundraiser; all proceeds go to the Conservation Commissions of Brookline and Milford to maintain and improve local trails. Since 2009 the event has raised over $350,000 for trail improvements.
The route follows an old railroad corridor. The trail is mostly straight, flat, and well groomed with one hill. About one mile of each 15 mile out-and-back is paved. The course is clearly marked and based on former railroad alignments where occasional railroad ties remain visible.
Races and formats include:
- 7.5 miles relay leg for two person teams
- 15 miles individual race
- 30 miles sunset night race
- 30 hour ultramarathon with distances in 15 mile multiples
The 30 hour relay accepts teams of two to seven runners. Some events have limited entries and waitlists. There is no race day registration, no refunds or deferrals, and bibs are non transferrable. The event publishes an inclusionary statement, partners with Pride on Foot, and received a 2024 Spirit of NH Award in the Volunteer Champion category.
Pets are not allowed at base camp, aid stations, or on the course except licensed service dogs. Open flames are not permitted on the course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
