Germantown 50k and 50k Relay

The Germantown 50k is an ultra trail running event held within the Germantown MetroPark in Montgomery County. Participants travel through a variety of natural environments, including cedar forests, open prairies, old-growth forests, and valleys. The course follows the scenic hills alongside Twin Creek and includes sections on a boardwalk and a dam.

The event offers two main participation options:

  • 50k: An individual ultra distance race consisting of four loops.
  • Germantown 50k Relay: A two-person team event where each member completes two loops of the course.

The 50k course features approximately 3,000 feet of elevation gain. The route primarily follows color-coded trails, including the Green, Orange, Purple, and Pink trails. A specific flood course is designated in case of high water. There is a cutoff time established for the final loop; participants may not begin the fourth lap after 2:45 pm.

The race starts and finishes at the Cottonwood shelter. Three aid stations are positioned along the course at the Cottonwood, Sunfish, and Conservancy locations. These stations provide water, hydration drinks, soda, and various food items such as potatoes, fruit, and snacks. This is a cupless event, and runners are required to bring their own bottles or hydration packs. Parking is available at the Cottonwood and Morning Glory shelters, with overflow parking at the Visitor's Center. All participants receive a collectable wildlife patch upon finishing. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
