Event overview

The Beacons Way Ultra is a 100 km event (approximately 62 miles) across the Brecon Beacons National Park on Saturday 25 July 2026. The route follows the official Beacons Way trail and includes high ground such as Pen-y-Fan and the Carmarthen Fans. The organiser states total ascent of the route at about 3178 metres. Entry is by application; the event has 250 places and an entry fee of £119. The overall cut-off for the race is 24 hours. The event attains UTMB Performance Index and ITRA points.

Course, checkpoints and support

The race uses six checkpoints along the route. Checkpoints provide refreshments (water, cola, tailwind, juice, sandwiches, snacks; vegetarian and vegan options noted), hot food at indoor locations, and medical cover or first aid presence. Checkpoint attendance is mandatory and runners must check in at every checkpoint. Strict checkpoint cut-offs are enforced and failure to reach a checkpoint in time results in withdrawal from the race. Support crews are permitted with restrictions: no pacers, no support at Checkpoint 5, limits on vehicles and numbers at checkpoints, and no dogs at checkpoints or the finish.

Entry requirements, kit and logistics

Entrants must be at least 20 years old and declare suitable experience. Applicants must have previously completed a 50 mile ultramarathon and have mountain running experience. The event is self-navigation; competent map-and-compass navigation is mandatory. Mandatory kit includes a hardcopy OS Explorer OL12 or equivalent map, a compass (not a phone compass), headtorch (min 75 lumens) plus a backup light (min 25 lumens), GPS tracker (issued at registration), waterproof coat and trousers, thermal survival bag or bivi, warm hat, gloves, water (min 1 litre), and emergency rations (min 500 calories).
