Event overview
The 2026 Roman Run takes place on 05/09/2026, starting in Brecon with the finish at Cyfarthfa Castle, Merthyr Tydfil. The route is approximately 16.3 miles with about 2,008 ft of climb. The event is held as a charity event and proceeds support the Mayor of Merthyr Charity Appeal. The minimum age to enter is 18.
Route and on-course support
The course includes five water stations, a lead bike (covering the later part of the course), a tail-end runner from start to finish, and first aid support. The race is Welsh Athletics licensed. There are no showers at the finish; complimentary tea, coffee and a sandwich are provided at the finish area. A baggage bus will transport tagged bags from the start to the finish.
Entry, logistics and rules
Entry fees are listed as Affiliated £32.00 and Unaffiliated £34.00. A coach transport option from finish to start is available for an additional £5 if booked before the stated deadline. Race numbers and timing chips are issued at registration; race numbers are assigned after online entry closes on 28 August 2026. T-shirt sizes are fixed from entries and cannot be changed after 31 July 2026. There is a race cutoff time of 4 hours 30 minutes. No refunds are available; transfers are permitted up to 28 August 2026. Earphones and similar devices are not permitted except for runners with a genuine hearing impairment.
