Roman Run

The Roman Run on 5 September 2026 is a charity road race between Brecon and Merthyr Tydfil. The course is approximately 16.37 miles with about 2,015 feet of climb. All proceeds support the Mayor of Merthyr Charity Appeal.

The event is Welsh Athletics licensed. On-course support includes five water stations, lead bike coverage for the final 7 miles, a tail-end runner from start to finish, and first aid provision. Baggage tags are provided at registration and a baggage bus transports bags from the race start to the finish. A commemorative T-shirt is available for collection at the finish in the size chosen at entry; size changes are not allowed after 31 July 2026.

Registration on race day is arranged at three desks alphabetically by surname. Race numbers with timing chips are issued at pickup; participants are asked to write emergency contact and medical details on the back of their number. Race numbers are assigned after the online entry system closes on 28 August 2026. There is a strict cutoff time of 4 hours 30 minutes for completing the course.

A coach option is offered for transport from the finish back to the start for an additional fee; changes to the coach option are not allowed after 31 July 2026. Entry transfers are permitted up to 28 August 2026. There are no refunds and no reserve list if the race is full.

The race finish is at Cyfarthfa Castle in Merthyr Tydfil. Complimentary tea, coffee and a sandwich are provided at the finish. Presentations award first place in category winners including Male, Male Masters 40 plus, Female, Female Masters 35 plus, local Merthyr male and female, and a team prize for four runners.
