Friends of Government Canyon Recharge Run 15K and 8K
The event takes place at Government Canyon State Natural Area in San Antonio, Texas, and offers both in-person and virtual options on November 7, 2026. Distances offered:
- 15K trail and virtual
- 8K trail and virtual
This is the annual fundraiser for Friends of Government Canyon, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit; race entry fees support projects and volunteer efforts to maintain and preserve the natural area. The in-person races use natural area trails and include a finishers medal for every runner. Top overall and masters finishers receive handmade awards; there are no age-group awards.
Logistics include parking at Folks Middle School with bus transport to the Natural Area; the start/finish is about a quarter mile from the picnic pavilion and bus drop. Packet pickup is available the day before at a local running store and on race morning at the picnic pavilion. The event will cap at 300 participants.
Course and aid information: all in-person courses share the same start/finish location and include a single aid station roughly halfway with water, electrolytes, Wildway granola (vegan), and GU gels on the 15K course. The event is cupless; participants should wear or carry a hydration device. Complimentary HydraPak SpeedCups are available at packet pickup and aid stations.
Virtual participants print a digital bib, complete the selected distance at any location, and may choose packet pickup or paid shipping; virtual entries are not eligible for awards. Packets for mailed entries will be sent on or before November 9, 2026. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
