Freight Train 100k/50k, Farmville VA
The Freight Train event on May 9, 2026 takes place on a relatively flat rail trail in Farmville, Virginia. The course includes a 100K, 50K, and a new Half Marathon. Runners cross the High Bridge twice on all longer routes. Total elevation gain for the 100K is under 1500 feet, and the trail has a slight incline in each direction as it leaves the start area.
The half marathon starts at the Farmville Train Station and follows the trail about 6.55 miles east to a turnaround just past Camp Paradise. That turnaround location is served by a manned, water only station. Crew members should use designated parking spaces.
Race policies note a 19 hour time limit for the 100K; 50K finishers must complete their distance before that cutoff. Runners aged 60 and older may request extended pacer privileges by contacting the race director in advance. A Quiet Start option allows individual runners to begin five minutes after the main field without affecting official finish time.
All finishers receive a handcrafted pottery award. Top three males and females in each distance, the top Grand Master in each distance, and DFL finishers receive additional recognition. Discounts are available to groups and to military, fire, law enforcement, EMS, teachers, and nurses using the code THANKS. A one time deferral is allowed with a 25 percent reentry fee.
