Freight Train Ultra Marathon - Farmville, VA
The Freight Train Ultra Marathon takes place on May 9, 2026 at High Bridge Trail State Park near Farmville, Virginia. The event offers multiple distances and uses a rail-trail course that passes High Bridge twice and has total elevation gain under 1500 feet for the 100k.

Course notes: the 100k begins at Camp Paradise and includes an out-and-back segment toward Burkeville plus a loop toward Pamplin passing downtown Farmville, Tuggle and Prospect. The 50k crosses High Bridge, continues through downtown to aid stations at Osborne Road, Tuggle and Prospect, reaches an unmanned turnaround past Prospect, then retraces to the finish. The half marathon runs west from Camp Paradise to an unmanned turnaround just past the main aid station, then returns, passing the downtown aid station twice.
Logistics: aid stations are positioned along the course and drop bags for the 100k are transported to Prospect and available at miles 34.2 and 47.6; 50k runners may also send a drop bag to Prospect. There is a 6.5 mile section between Prospect and the Pamplin turnaround without an aid station; runners should carry sufficient water for long stretches. Pacers are permitted under specified rules for the 100k and 50k but not for the half marathon. Dogs may run with prior permission and strollers are permitted for the full distance.
Other details: the 100k has a 19 hour time limit. Registration fees listed include Half Marathon $80, 50k $100 and 100k $165. Early registrants by November 1 receive a unisex long-sleeve hoodie; all finishers receive a handcrafted ornament and top finishers receive pottery awards.
