Course and participation
The 10-mile race is a loop course that passes through the piedmont hills of Cumberland State Forest and Bear Creek Lake State Park. The Mini loop covers 4.2 miles on a combination of park trails, Willis River Trail single track, and the Cumberland Multi-use Trail. Both races start and finish at Bear Creek Lake State Park. This is a trail race and walkers or hikers may participate. In 2025, 90% of participants finished the 10-mile course in under 3 hours; anyone who expects to need more than 3 hours 30 minutes for the 10-mile course is asked to contact the organizers before the race. Overnight cabins are available through the Virginia State Parks Customer Service Center; advance reservations are recommended. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
