Freedom to Move Mile - Description
The Freedom to Move Mile is a community running event in Andover, Massachusetts, held at 20 Whittier Street and finishing in the Town Park. The event offers both an in person mile and a virtual mile with the same distance.
The course for the in person mile is a mostly downhill route that starts at the top of Summer Street, follows Summer Street, makes one turn at Whittier Street, and finishes in the Park. Participants are invited to use parking at the finish area and walk to the start as a warmup. Bikes and scooters are welcome to be left at a bike and scooter valet at the Park so that participants run or walk the mile without wheeled devices.
The event organizes runners into seeded waves based on estimated finish time; the Rainbow wave is designated for walkers, runners with strollers, and participants with dogs. The event is presented by the Rainbow Fund, which directs proceeds toward community projects, including building a bike park for children in Massachusetts.
Registration is available for the in person and virtual miles and there is a registration fee of $20. Registration windows differ for the two options and close on July 15, 2026. A community gathering described as a party in the Park follows the finish. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
