Freedom to Move Mile : Andover, MA

The Freedom to Move Mile is a downhill 1 mile running event that finishes in the Town Park at 20 Whittier Street, Andover, MA. The course begins at the top of Summer Street, continues down Summer Street, makes one turn onto Whittier Street, and concludes in the park. A community event called the Rainbow Day Party with a Purpose takes place in the Town Park after the finish.

The event is organized into four start waves by estimated finish time: Elite for estimated times under 6:00, Competitive for 6:00 to 7:30, Citizen for 7:30 to 10:00, and Rainbow for all other runners and walkers. Runners with strollers and dogs are directed to the Rainbow wave.

Registration opens on 26 May 2026 and closes on 1 July 2026. The registration fee is $20.00. Parking is available at the finish area, and the walk from the finish to the start serves as a warmup option. Bikes and scooters are not used on the course; a bike and scooter valet is provided at the park for those items.

Proceeds support the Rainbow Fund and its work to make Massachusetts communities places where children can move freely, including efforts to build a bike park for kids. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
