Fountainhead Half Marathon and 10K Trail Run
The Fountainhead Half Marathon and 10K takes place at Fountainhead Regional Park in Fairfax Station, Virginia. Located approximately 30 minutes from Washington D.C., the venue provides a remote environment for trail running. The courses feature technical terrain with rocks, roots, stream crossings, and significant elevation changes.
Participants can choose from two primary distances:
- 13.5 miles (Half Marathon+)
- 6.9 miles (11ish K)
The half marathon distance follows a 6-mile section of the Bull Run Occoquan Trail (BROT) and includes three side trails, reaching a total elevation gain of approximately 1,400 feet. The 10K course uses a shorter segment of the BROT and one side trail featuring a steep climb, resulting in an elevation gain of around 700 feet.
The event is open to all runners and serves as the Collegiate Running Association's US Trail Running Championship. The half marathon course includes seven aid stations, while the 10K has four stations. All stations provide water and electrolyte drinks, with additional snacks and facilities available at specific points on the longer course.
Registration includes a finisher medal, race t-shirt, professional chip timing, and post-race food, including breakfast burritos. A short out-and-back kids race is also held for participants aged 2-11. Participants in the half marathon must be capable of completing the course within a 4-hour time limit.
