Event Overview
The Forks 5K is a community running event held in Albion, Michigan. The event is scheduled to coincide with the annual Festival of the Forks, a local celebration featuring food and music. The race takes place near Victory Park, located where two branches of the Kalamazoo River meet in the center of the city.
The event consists of several participation options:
- 5K Run/Walk
- Kids Fun Run
- Virtual 5K Run/Walk
Course and Participation
The 5K course is open to both strollers and dogs. For those unable to attend in person, the virtual option allows participants to complete their distance on a course of their choosing, including roads, trails, or treadmills. The virtual event takes place over a multi-day window following the in-person race.
Professional chip timing is provided by the Michigan Running Foundation for the in-person race, with live results available online. All participants in the 5K and the virtual race receive a finisher medal. Awards are presented to the top five male and top five female finishers in the individual in-person events.
Community Impact
Registration fees for the race serve as donations to local nonprofit organizations. These organizations provide the volunteers necessary to manage the course. Historically, these funds have contributed significantly to the operating budgets of various local nonprofits.
The Forks 5K is also part of the Run Albion series. Participants who complete at least two of the three events in the series are eligible for series scoring awards. Other events in this series include Run the Rock, History Hustle, and the Foundry Mile. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
