Follow the Sign
The Georgia Center of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing presents Follow the Sign, a community run and walk held in Atlanta on Sunday, September 27, 2026, as part of National Deaf Awareness Week (September 21–27, 2026). The event was created by Deaf and hard of hearing community members to showcase sign language, cultural diversity, and accessibility while raising funds to support Deaf, DeafBlind, and hard-of-hearing individuals.
Event options include:
- 5K race
- Virtual 5K
- 1K Toddler Trot, ages 5 and under
The certified 5K course is USATF approved and serves as an AJC Peachtree Road Race qualifier. In-person participants receive a race T-shirt, a race number at check-in, and a medal upon completion. Virtual participants can complete the 5K at their chosen location, submit results through the race website by October 4, 2026, and will receive a commemorative T-shirt and medal by mail.
Participant rules include a minimum age of 5 for the 5K; children under 18 must be accompanied by a registered adult. Guides or push-assist runners must register. Registrations are nontransferable and nonrefundable. Walkers are asked to keep to the right to allow runners to pass on the left. Awards are given by net time for overall male and female finishers and top male and female in each age group: under 18, 19–29, 30–39, 40–49, 50–59, and 60 plus.
Registration opens May 1, 2026. Fees listed by the organizer are $35 for the 5K and virtual 5K, and $15 for the toddler trot. Parking and exact start location are to be determined. The event also seeks donations and sponsorships to support a fundraising goal of $50,000. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
