Flyathlon 2026 - Red Deer

The Flyathlon is a multi sport event that combines trail running, fishing and craft beer. It takes place on September 12, 2026 in Red Deer, Alberta. The route starts at Canada 150 Place and finishes at the Troubled Monk.

The total route distance is 5 km. Participants run with their rods and gear and may stop along the trail to cast and attempt to catch a fish. Catches are to be recorded with species and estimated size for prize categories; fish are intended to be caught and released.

The event is organized by Freshwater Conservation Canada as a fundraiser for freshwater ecosystem projects. The majority of funds raised by participants will be used for on the ground conservation work. Flyathletes are asked to meet a minimum fundraising goal of 250 CAD. Registration fee is 100 CAD. Registered participants receive a race tee, one drink ticket, food, and a 50 CAD tax receipt.

Volunteers will be available along the route to assist participants who are new to fishing. Prizes will be awarded to top fundraisers and in categories such as top course finishers, smallest fish and largest fish. The event listing notes a no refund policy.
