Flyathlon 2026 - Red Deer
The Flyathlon is a multi sport event that combines trail running, fishing and craft beer. The event takes place in Red Deer on September 12, 2026, and is presented as the first annual edition. The total route distance is 5 km. The route starts at Canada 150 Place and finishes at the Troubled Monk, a local craft beverage company.
Participants run the trail carrying rods and gear and choose when to stop to cast. Participants are asked to record species and estimated size for prize eligibility. Caught fish are to be released after capture. Volunteers described as "fish whisperers" will be available along the route to assist people who have not fished before.
The event is presented as largely inclusive rather than strictly competitive and promotes responsible fishing practices and trail habits. It is a fundraising event: registration requires a fee and participants must meet a minimum fundraising target. The majority of funds raised will support on the ground projects for freshwater ecosystems.
Included with registration are a race tee, one drink ticket, food and a CAD 50 tax receipt. The event policy states no refunds. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
