FlatRock 50K, 25K, 12K, and 5K : Independence, KS
FlatRock is a trail race weekend held at the Outlet Channel Group Shelter at Elk City Lake near Independence, Kansas. The event offers multiple distances:

- 25K
- 12K
- 5K
The course is a technical, primarily single-track out-and-back along the Elk River Hiking Trail. The trail passes through limestone bluffs, rock formations, and scenic vistas. Race headquarters are at the Outlet Channel Group Shelter on the north side of the Elk City Lake dam. Packet pickup is available on the Friday evening before the race with a pre-race spaghetti dinner that includes vegetarian and gluten free options, and again on the morning of race day at the shelter.
Aid station provisions vary by distance. The 50K has seven aid stations, five fully stocked and two water only; the 25K has three stations with two fully stocked; the 12K has one fully stocked station; and the 5K has no aid stations. Drop bags are allowed for the 50K only and may be left at designated areas for transport to OakRidge and the turnaround. Crew access is permitted for 50K runners at OakRidge and the turnaround.
Complimentary race photos are provided by Mile 90 Photography. Volunteers receive registration credit toward future races, and active duty military or veterans are offered a 10 percent discount. Runners are responsible for their own safety and must follow race rules, including no littering and keeping dogs leashed. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
