The event is part of the FlatRock Triple Crown series. The Triple Crown includes WinterRock 25K, FlatRock 101K, and the FlatRock 50K; finishers of all three events receive a special award.
Course and support
The course is a technical, primarily single-track out-and-back along the Elk River Hiking Trail. It runs on an accurately measured forest trail with limestone bluffs, rock formations, and scenic vistas. Aid station support varies by distance:
- 50K: seven aid stations; five fully stocked with water, electrolyte drink, and snack-type foods including soup and sandwiches; two water-only stations. Approximate spacing 3.5 to 5 miles.
- 25K: three aid stations; two fully stocked and one water-only at the turn-around. Approximate spacing 3.5 miles.
- 12K: one fully stocked aid station.
- 5K: no aid stations.
Drop bags and crew access are allowed only for the 50K, with specific access points at OakRidge and the turn-around.
Logistics and rules
Packet pickup is available the evening before the race and on race morning. A pre-race dinner will be offered at the Friday packet pickup with spaghetti and vegetarian and gluten-free options. Time limits and cutoffs apply by distance. Trekking poles are allowed and dogs must be leashed. Campsites with and without electricity and showers are available near the start; motels are located about 7 miles away. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
