FlatRock 50K and associated races
FlatRock in Independence, KS is a trail race event that offers multiple distances on the Elk River Hiking Trail. The course is primarily single-track, out-and-back, and passes through forested sections with limestone bluffs, rock formations, and scenic vistas.

- 50K
- 25K
- 12K
- 5K
Aid stations vary by distance. The 50K has seven aid stations, five fully stocked with water, electrolyte drink, and snack-type foods including soup and sandwiches, plus two water-only stations. The 25K has three aid stations with two fully stocked and one water-only at the turn-around. The 12K has one fully stocked aid station. The 5K has no aid stations.
Logistics and support include two packet pickup opportunities with a Friday evening packet pickup that features a spaghetti dinner with vegetarian and gluten-free options. Drop bags are allowed only for the 50K at OakRidge and the turn-around; runners are responsible for clearly marking and retrieving their bags. Crews are permitted for the 50K at OakRidge and the turn-around. Complimentary race photos are provided by a race photographer.
Policies note that refunds are not offered; instead a sliding credit policy is available for future FlatRock events. Runners who do not finish are listed as DNF. Course cutting or misconduct can result in disqualification. Trekking poles are allowed. Dogs are permitted only on leash. Campsites with and without electricity and showers are available near the start area, and motels are available in Independence. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
