FlatRock trail races
FlatRock is a set of trail races held at Elk City Lake near Independence, KS. The course follows the Elk River Hiking Trail on mainly single-track trail and is described as technical with limestone bluffs, rock formations, and scenic vistas. Races use an out-and-back layout.

- 50K
- 25K
- 12K
- 5K
Aid stations and support vary by distance. The 50K has seven aid stations, five fully stocked with water, electrolyte drink, and snack-type foods including soup and sandwiches, and two water-only stations. The 25K has three aid stations with similar provisioning at two stations. The 12K has one fully stocked aid station. The 5K has no aid stations. Approximate spacing between aid stations is about 3.5 to 5 miles on longer distances. Time limits are applied by distance and there are cutoffs at key locations on the course.
Logistics include two packet pickup opportunities, a pre-race spaghetti dinner with vegetarian and gluten free options at the Friday packet pickup, and a staging area at the Outlet Channel Group Shelter near the Elk City Lake dam. Drop bags and crew access are allowed only for the 50K at specified aid locations. Trekking poles are permitted and dogs are allowed on leash. A volunteer benefit program and a military discount are offered. Transfer credit is available on a sliding scale prior to the event date.
