WinterRock on January 2, 2027 is organized by the FlatRock Race Series in Kansas, United States. The event offers multiple distance options:
- Triple Crown (all three FlatRock races)
- 25K
- 12K
The course is a technical, mostly single-track out-and-back along the Elk River Hiking Trail. The route follows a measured forest trail with limestone bluffs, rock formations, and scenic vistas. The start area and packet pickup are at the Outlet Channel Group Shelter near the Elk City Lake dam.
Aid on course is limited and largely unmanned: the 25K includes three unmanned aid stations and the 12K has one turnaround aid station. Aid stations provide only water and no cups, so participants must carry their own handheld bottle and bring any fuel they need.
The FlatRock Triple Crown combines WinterRock 25K, FlatRock 101K, and FlatRock 50K into a 176K series with a special award for finishers who complete all three races. Post-race food such as Frito Chili Pie will be available, and shirts and medallions are provided.
Volunteer shifts earn benefits including a T-shirt and reduced future registration fees; one volunteer shift gives a 25% registration discount and completing four shifts earns a free race. Active-duty military and veterans are eligible for a 10% discount. Deferral and transfer credits follow a sliding scale based on how far in advance the request is made.
Race rules note that trekking poles are allowed, dogs must be leashed, no littering is permitted, and course deviations may result in penalties or disqualification. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
