WinterRock - Independence, KS
WinterRock is a trail running event held at Elk City Lake with races organized by FlatRock Race Series. The course uses the Elk River Hiking Trail and runs out and back through forested areas and limestone bluffs with rock formations and scenic vistas.
Distances offered:
- Triple Crown
- 25K
- 12K
The trail is mostly single track and technical in places. The 25K has three aid stations and the 12K has one turnaround aid station. All aid stations are unmanned and provide only water; they are spaced about 3.5 to 4 miles apart. No cups are provided, so runners must carry their own water containers and pack any required fuel.
Packet pickup and the start area are at the Outlet Channel Group Shelter on the north side of the Elk City Lake dam. Post-race food will be available, including Frito Chili Pie. Trekking poles are allowed and dogs are permitted only on leash.
The event includes policies on deferral and transfer credit with a sliding scale for credits, rules for dropouts and disqualifications, and guidance that runners are responsible for their own medical readiness. Local emergency services will be used in case of medical incidents. Cancellation and refund policies apply in extreme circumstances. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
