Event overview
Armagh AC’s Flagstaff to Carlingford Mountain Race is scheduled for Sunday 21 June 2026. The race is graded NIMRA 7 and listed as a medium category mountain event. The route covers approximately 10.3–11 miles (about 16.5 km) with roughly 3,000–3,400 feet of ascent. Navigation and local mountain knowledge are required.
Route and checkpoints
The course follows the ridge of the Cooley mountains to Slieve Foye and finishes in Carlingford. The route includes named checkpoints on Anglesey Mountain, Clermont (Black Mountain), Carnawaddy Mountain, Windy Gap and Slieve Foye, with the finish on a lane into Carlingford main street. A forest path halfway around will be out of bounds this year; this will be announced at the race briefing.
Entry, kit and logistics
Online entry details are to be confirmed. There are no entries on the day and the minimum age is 17. The organiser will carry out a mandatory kit check before competitors board the coach to the start. Free coach transfer to the start is provided for the first 70 registered athletes. A cut-off at Windy Gap will be strictly enforced. Prizegiving and refreshments are arranged afterwards at The Foy Centre in Carlingford.
Historical notes
The route passes several archaeological sites, including Clontygora Court Tomb, Clermont Cairn (Carn na breid naire), Carnavaddy (the Hound’s Cairn) and other local monuments.
