About the race
The Fierce Dragon is a multi-race winter trail event organized by H9 Events at Vogel State Park near Blairsville, GA, held January 12 - 17, 2027. The event program includes multiple distances and a main 200-mile event that follows the Duncan Ridge with repeated traverses between Vogel State Park and Skeenah Gap. The 200-mile course includes an outbound traverse over the Wolf Creek river crossing and an inbound route that uses FS Roads 108/107 to reach Burnett Gap.
Only full Vogel-to-Skeenah-to-Vogel laps are counted. The course is well marked and the 200-mile race has no formal entry requirements; runners who cannot continue under their own power are shuttled back to Vogel. Race operations emphasize shelter, aid station resilience, and more substantial nutrition offerings such as protein, resistant starches, and MCTs. Support points are located at Vogel State Park, Fire Pit (A Dragon Locker), Mulky Gap and Skeenah Gap; a Dragon Locker may be placed at Fish Gap if the gate is open.
Crew access is allowed with one vehicle per runner; crews meeting runners at Bryant Gap or Mulky Gap require placards and vehicles will be inspected for suitability. Campsites and cottages at Vogel are available for base operations. Parking at Georgia State Parks is charged per day or via an annual pass. Races included: - 200 mile Full Fury - 100 mile Firestarter - 100 km Frozen Toe - 40 mile Flintstrike - 40 km Frost Talon - Coosa Challenge.
