Fierce Dragon (H9) : Blairsville, GA
Fierce Dragon is a multi-distance trail event organized by H9 Events around Vogel State Park and the Duncan Ridge near Blairsville, GA. The event includes a main 200-mile race and shorter races that reuse sections of the same ridge-line terrain. Course markings and multiple aid/support locations are used along the route.
Distances
- 200 miles Full Fury
- 100 miles Firestarter
- 100 km Frozen Toe
- 40 miles Flintstrike
- 40 km Frost Talon
- Coosa Challenge
The 200-mile course consists of repeated traverses of the Duncan Ridge: ten traverses equaling five full laps between Vogel State Park and Skeenah Gap. Outbound traverses cross Wolf Creek; inbound routes use FS Roads 108/107 toward Burnett Gap. Only full Vogel-to-Skeenah-to-Vogel laps count. The course is well marked and runners unable to continue are returned to Vogel.
Shorter races reuse the ridge traverses in different combinations and provide set time allowances to complete their distance. The 100-mile race shares much of the 200-mile route and applies cutoffs at several aid points; it also offers extra time options for older runners. The 100k, 40-mile and 40k races use one or two laps or out-and-back sections to Mulky Gap.
Support is provided at Vogel State Park, Fire Pit (A Dragon Locker), Mulky Gap and Skeenah Gap. Crew access is allowed with one vehicle per runner; crew placards are required for Bryant Gap and Mulky Gap, and large vehicles may be restricted. Parking at Vogel State Park is subject to the park's daily fee or an annual pass. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
