48th Annual Hogpen Hill Climb 18K and Cool River Tubing 5K

The Hogpen Hill Climb is a long-standing athletic tradition held in Helen, Georgia. This year marks the 48th edition of the event, which features multiple distances and formats to accommodate various participant preferences. The races are organized by Habitat for Humanity of Northeast Georgia, with all proceeds supporting the construction of houses and general operating expenses for the organization.

Participants can choose from several distance options:

  • 18 km
  • 5 km
  • Combo (5 km and 18 km)

The 5 km race follows a loop course that begins at the Festhalle in downtown Helen. The 18 km run is recognized for its significant elevation gain, finishing at the top of Hogpen Gap. For this distance, a baggage check-in service is provided so that participants can have warm clothing waiting for them at the finish line. Due to the location of the finish area, personal vehicles are not permitted at the top of the gap.

Registration typically takes place at the pavilion on the north side of Riverside Park, though it may be moved to the Helen Festhalle in the case of inclement weather. In addition to the in-person races, virtual options are available for those who wish to participate remotely. Registered participants receive a race event shirt, with availability guaranteed for those who complete their registration by the early bird deadline.

Different fee structures apply for adult and student participants, with discounted rates available for early registration. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
