Event overview
The Georgia Death Race is a trail running event held March 28, 2026, in Blairsville, Georgia. The event is run over a 74-mile course from Byron Herbert Reece Heritage Center to Amicalola Falls State Park. The course includes about 16,000 ft of climbing and 16,000 ft of descent. The race has a total time cutoff of 25 hours, with additional hard cutoffs at aid stations.
Course rules and records
Runners are required to carry a 1 lb railroad spike for the duration of the race. Finishers throw the spike into a coffin at the finish and receive an engraved spike on completion. Pacers are not allowed. Course records for the current 74-mile course are listed as: female 13:31:29 and male 11:26:54. The event provides maps, aid station breakdowns, and cutoff times for the course.
Registration, logistics, and requirements
The 2026 race is sold out and a waitlist is open; the waitlist is scheduled to remain open until June 1, 2025. The race is a Western States qualifier - finishing the 2026 race in under 24 hours earns one lottery entry for the Western States Endurance Run 2027. Packet pickup is at Amicalola Lodge the Friday night before the race. Registration includes a hat and pint glass. For 2026, all registered runners must document a minimum of six volunteer hours at a trail race or trail maintenance, or pay a $20 opt-out fee that will be donated to Benton Mackaye Trail Association or Georgia SORBA.
