Fast and Furriest 5k Year 13
Rescue One organizes the 13th annual Fast and the Furriest in the Rountree neighborhood of Springfield, Missouri. The in-person event meets on the field next to Sleepy Opossum Cafe at 1409 E Cherry Street. The event welcomes animal lovers and people of all ages and experience levels; well socialized dogs on standard leashes are allowed, with retractable leashes prohibited.
Distances offered:
- 5K (3.1 miles)
- 1 mile
- Virtual race option
Registration fees vary by event: $40 for the Human 5K, $45 for the Human/Dog 5K and the Virtual race, and $35 for the 1 Mile. Different registration deadlines apply. Packet pick-up is available the day before at Tie & Timber Beer Co., 1451 E. Cherry Street, and on the event day at 1409 E Cherry Street; packets include shirt, swag bag, and bib, and participants may collect packets for others.
Course and race logistics note that volunteers will be on the route but not at every turn, and route signs will be placed on the right side of the road. The 1 mile route turns back after the first right on Lombard. An additional water station has been added along the course. After the event, chicken tenders will be available from Huey Magoo’s and cookies from The Urban Cup. The event proceeds support Rescue One and its work. The event will take place rain or shine unless severe weather creates unsafe conditions, in which case rescheduling may be considered.
