Event and purpose
The University of North Georgia Fallen Officer Memorial 5k is scheduled for April 18, 2026 on the UNG Dahlonega campus. The event raises funds to build a Fallen Officer Memorial on campus that will display the names of officers who graduated from UNG or worked for the UNG Police Department. The event program includes a 5K Run/Walk, a 5K division for active or retired law enforcement officers, a 5-person team 5K, and a Ghost Runner option for donors who receive a T-shirt.
Course and rules
The course is two laps that return to the start/finish line, with the second lap passing around a campus fountain. The route has approximately 400 feet of elevation gain; the final 0.25+ miles is a gradual downhill to the finish. Half of each lap is on walkways and half on road. A water station is located at the roundabout before starting lap two. The event enforces a one-hour time limit; course support and timing are not provided for participants who do not complete the course within that limit. Strollers and dogs are not permitted. Headphones are allowed at low volume so runners can hear officials and others.
Entry, fees and awards
There is no race-day registration; registration is handled in advance. Individual entry is priced at $35 and the 5-person team fee is $125 (price increases after March 31, 2026). All finishers within the one-hour limit receive a finisher’s medal. Awards are given to the top overall male and female, top overall active/retired law enforcement male and female, and the top team of five.
