University of North Georgia - Fallen Officer Memorial 5k
The Fallen Officer Memorial 5k is a memorial running event held on the University of North Georgia (UNG) Dahlonega Campus. The event raises funds for a memorial dedicated to law enforcement officers who graduated from UNG or worked for the UNG Police Department and were killed in the line of duty.
The current list of available events includes:
- 5k Run/Walk
- 5k Run/Walk for Active or Retired Law Enforcement Officers
- 5k Run/Walk for 5-person Teams
- 5k Ghost Runner (donation based)
The course consists of a two-lap route on the beautiful UNG Dahlonega campus terrain. Participants will complete the first lap and return to the start/finish line before circling a fountain for the second lap. The path is divided between paved roads and walkways, featuring approximately 400 feet of elevation gain throughout the race. The final segment of the course offers a gradual downhill section leading into the finish line. A water station is situated at the roundabout before the start of the second lap.
All participants who complete the course within the one-hour time limit receive a finisher's medal. Awards are presented to the top three overall male and female finishers, the top three active or retired law enforcement finishers, and the fastest 5-person team. For safety reasons due to course barriers and narrow walkways, strollers and dogs are not allowed on the course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
