Helenback Race Series : Helen, GA
Helenback is a trail race series held on routes around Helen, Georgia, with start and finish on the large field adjoining the Chattahoochee River. The event offers three distances:
- Marathon
- Half Marathon
- 4 Miler
Courses use Unicoi State Park and nearby trail systems. Runners begin with a gravel service road climb of about 400 feet into Unicoi, then follow Bottoms Loop, cross GA-356 and the Smith Creek Dam, run along the Lake Trail, and pass near Anna Ruby Falls. Longer routes continue up FS 690 toward Tray Mountain and the Appalachian Trail, then return through aid stations named First Blood, Bear Trap, and Field before finishing by the river.
Aid and logistics: aid stations are placed roughly every 4–6 miles; some stations have limited access. There is a mandatory pre-race meeting 20 minutes before each race to review the course. Packet pickup is available Friday afternoon and on race morning at the start/finish area. Parking is provided for about 150 cars near the field; overflow parking is across the river with an approximately 0.25 mile walk back.
Event details note strict cutoffs at several course locations and that the race operates as a nonprofit; a portion of proceeds supports Unicoi State Park and White County ROTC. Awards include top overall and masters/grandmasters placements for the marathon and half marathon. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
