Fall Backyard Burn Trail Run - Laurel Hill
The Fall Backyard Burn Trail Run takes place at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton, Virginia, on the site of the former Lorton Reformatory. The race course travels through 1,600 acres of former prison grounds, passing directly under old guard towers at the start and finish lines. Participants navigate a landscape consisting of forested areas and open meadows.
The terrain is primarily singletrack trail made of a mixture of dirt and crushed stone. It is described as a less technical course with only short sections of pavement located at the beginning and end of the route. The topography features frequent short ascents and descents rather than extended climbs.
Participants can choose between two distance options:
- 5.4 miles (comprising one lap of the course)
- 10 miles (comprising two laps of the course)
Registration includes an optional charity partnership with Homestretch, a local non-profit organization. This partnership aims to increase awareness and raise funds for services provided to families in the area. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
