Fall Backyard Burn Trail Run - Laurel Hill

The event is staged from the Workhouse Arts Center ball field in Lorton, Virginia, just south of the Capital Beltway. The course runs through portions of the former Lorton Reformatory grounds and starts and finishes near the old guard towers at the Workhouse Arts Center.

The route mixes forested singletrack and open meadow trails across about 1,600 acres. Most trail surfaces are dirt and crushed stone; only short pavement sections occur at the beginning and end of the course. The route has no extended climbs but includes many short ups and downs.

Course options:

  • 5.4 miles (one lap)
  • 10 miles (two laps)

Elevation gain is approximately 350 feet for the 5.4-mile option and about 700 feet for the 10-mile option.

During registration there is an opportunity to support the local non-profit Homestretch; the partnership aims to raise awareness of services for families and to generate funds for that organization. The event is staged from the southern end of the Workhouse Arts Center complex, with entrances to the site off Ox Road and off Workhouse Road.
