Fall Backyard Burn Trail Run - Laurel Hill
The event takes place on October 4, 2026 at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton, VA. Staging is at the ball field at the southern end of the complex with access from Ox Road or Workhouse Road. The street address is 9601 Ox Rd, Lorton, VA 22079.
The course travels through forested and open meadow singletrack across the former prison grounds, which encompass about 1,600 acres. The start and finish are under the old guard towers at the Workhouse Arts Center. Most of the route is singletrack composed of dirt and crushed stone. There are only short pavement sections at the beginning and end. The route has no extended climbs but includes many short ups and downs.
Distances:
- 5.4 miles (one lap), 350 feet elevation gain
- 10 miles (two laps), 700 feet elevation gain
Portajons are available at the start and finish. Aid stations and medical support are provided. Race rules include no in ear headphones, race numbers visible on the front, no pets or pacers on course, no baby strollers, outside assistance allowed only within 50 meters of aid stations, and a requirement to stay on designated trails. There are no cut off times.
A free kids race for ages 2 to 11 is offered with age group divisions and a Treasure Box for participants. A separate supervised kids program is available for a fee and requires pre registration.
Age category divisions are Male, Female, Non Binary and range from 12 and under through 70 to 79. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
