Midnight Sun Run 10K - Fairbanks, Alaska
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner Midnight Sun Run is an annual 10K held in Fairbanks around the summer solstice. The course starts at the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus and winds about 6.2 miles through area neighborhoods lined with thousands of spectators. The route finishes at Pioneer Park, where post-race festivities continue into the night.
The event is chip timed and includes an elite runner corral to place top competitors near the front while accommodating a range of paces. A costumed division is a prominent feature, with Individual, Team, and Youth 12 and under divisions and themed categories that award prizes. The race has been selected by the Road Runners Club of America as a State Championship Event.
Proceeds support the Fairbanks Resource Agency and the Paula Kothe Scholarship Award, which provides $6,000 in scholarships to local student athletes. Related programs include a nine-week Couch to 10K training program offered in person, virtually, or as a hybrid; participants who complete the program are eligible for a free race registration.
