Alaska Endurance Trail Run
The Alaska Endurance Trail Run is a timed trail event held on the University of Alaska Fairbanks West Ridge trails. The event offers individual runners and walkers options to see how far they can go within set time limits rather than a fixed distance. The course is a roughly 6 mile loop that repeats for the duration of a chosen time category.
Distances and formats:
- 6 hour timed race
- 12 hour timed race
- 24 hour timed race
The starting area is at the ski hut near the parking lot behind the International Arctic Research Center on the UAF upper campus. The listed address is 930 Koyukuk Drive, Fairbanks, Alaska.
The loop passes through heavily forested areas, open fields, and meadows. Surfaces include gravel, grass, roots, and forest duff. There are no road crossings except a couple of gravel maintenance roads and a short paved section of about 300 feet along a bike path near Ballaine Lake; runners can use adjacent gravel or grass there. Trails are mildly technical in places with roots, occasional fallen branches or trees, and some rocks. Depending on spring breakup and recent rain, some sections may be soggy.
Participants aged 12 to 17 are permitted but must be accompanied on site by a parent or designated guardian for the duration of the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
