Euchre Bar Massacre
Euchre Bar Massacre is a limited-entry trail event near Foresthill, CA that offers two fatass style distances along the North Fork of the American River. The route starts and finishes at Shirttail Creek Campground and includes off trail sections, bushwhacking, and route finding.
The course uses multiple named features and approaches, including Euchre Bar, Pioneer Mine, Ebeneezer's highway, Green Valley, Mumford Bar, and Italian Bar. One location for drop bags and crew is provided on course and is passed through twice. Course maps are withheld until shortly before the event because portions are off trail.
The event is free to enter but is capped at 50 combined entrants. The organizer operates a waiting list; historically everyone placed on that list has been admitted. Participants are expected to remain at the finish until at least one other runner arrives.
Climbing is significant, with roughly 10,000 feet of ascent for the 25 mile and about 20,000 feet for the 50 mile. Reported finish times from the previous year were approximately 14 hours for the 25 mile and 25 hours for the 50 mile. Distances are approximate and may refer to nautical miles. A group campsite is available for Friday and Saturday night. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
