Sunset & Cider Trail Races
The Sunset & Cider Trail Races take place in Auburn, CA, along the American River Canyon and are presented by Bad Luck Run Club and Ponderosa Cider Co. The event offers multiple trail distances that follow largely single track routes with short neighborhood road sections.
Distances
- 50K - two out and back segments, 3760 ft total climbing
- 13.1M - two out and back loops, 1890 ft total climbing
- 5M - one out and back loop, 704 ft total climbing
Course notes: All courses are described as runnable with mostly single track trail surfaces. The 50K includes aid stations at miles 3.8, 10.5, 17.0, 20.9, and 25.6 supplying water, sports drink, light snacks, and fruit. The 13.1M has aid stations at miles 3.8, 4.8, and 8.7 offering similar provisions. The 5M follows the first five miles of the half marathon course and has no aid stations; walkers are welcome.
Awards and post-race items: Every participant receives a commemorative 16 oz cider glass and one Ponderosa Cider pour for those 21 and over. The first 200 registrants receive a BOCO trail running hat. Age group awards are offered in 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60+ categories.
Community program: The Unity Initiative supports selected nonprofit partners by matching donations up to $40 or 25% of the registration fee and offers future race discounts upon proof of donation.
