Sunset & Cider Trail Races
The event takes place in Auburn, CA, along the American River Canyon and features multiple trail distances on mostly single track with short neighborhood road sections. Courses are described as runnable and include notable total climbing for each distance.
Available distances
- 50K: two out-and-back segments, 3760 ft total climbing, mostly single track.
- Half Marathon (13.1M): two out-and-back loops, 1890 ft total climbing, mostly single track.
- 5 Miler: one out-and-back loop, 704 ft total climbing, follows first 5 miles of the half course.
Aid and support vary by distance. The 50K has aid stations at miles 3.8, 10.5, 17.0, 20.9, and 25.6 offering water, sports drink, light snacks, and fruit. The half marathon has aid at miles 3.8, 4.8, and 8.7 with similar supplies. The 5 Miler has no aid stations and welcomes walkers. The longer distances have an event time limit due to available light.
Post-race provisions and awards are provided. All participants receive a commemorative 16 oz cider glass; participants aged 21 and over receive a complimentary cider pour. The first 200 registered runners receive a BOCO trail running hat. Age-group awards are offered for 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60 plus.
The Unity Initiative partners with local nonprofits, matches donations up to $40 or 25 percent of registration, and issues future race discounts upon receipt of proof of donation. Donations must be made in 2025 and prior to the event date(s). Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
