Event Overview
The Essex Winter Midweek Series - Chelmsford is a midweek street orienteering event using MapRun software. It is event number nine in a ten-event series for the 2025/26 season. Points are awarded based on a final score adjusted by an age/gender handicap system. A participant's best six results from the series count towards the league leaderboard.
Course Details
The event offers two courses:
- Long: A 60-minute score course.
- Short: A 40-minute score course. Both courses use the same map and control sites. It is a score event, meaning controls may be visited in any order. Control sites are fire hydrants. The course takes place on roads and footpaths, including some lit alleyways.
Participation and Logistics
Start times are available between 6:30 PM and 7:30 PM. Participation is at participants' own risk, and those under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. As this is a night event, a head or hand torch is compulsory. High-visibility clothing is strongly recommended.
The event uses the MapRun app on a smartphone or Garmin watch for timing and scoring. An alternative paper control card method is available for those unable to use the app. Competitors must report to the finish by 9:00 PM. Entry fees apply, with a higher fee for unaffiliated runners.
Other Information
Toilets are available at the pub venue. An anytime catch-up option is available for some events for two weeks afterwards via MapRun, subject to a time penalty. Bonus points are awarded for running on the scheduled event night. Full results are emailed and published on SOS and HAVOC websites. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
