Essex 20 : Debden Airfield, Saffron Walden
The Essex 20 is an annual 20-mile road race held in March on a 5-lap course at Debden Airfield, Carver Barracks, Water Lane, Wimbish, Saffron Walden CB10 2YA. The venue is a disused airfield with a flat, tarmac surface and no sharp corners. Tree cover around the site typically reduces wind on the course.
The event incorporates the Inter-counties 20 mile road race and hosts the Essex County Road Running Championships. Entry to the County Championship requires an England Athletics affiliation number for the current affiliation year and the name of the entrant’s England Athletics affiliated running club; entries lacking this information will not be accepted into the County Championship. A password is required to book the County Champs entry and is provided via club contacts or the race secretary.
Age eligibility for the race is 18 and over on the event date. Listed entry fees in 2025/2026 materials include general entry at approximately £34–£36 and a County Championship ticket at £22. Ample parking is available at the venue for a £3 parking fee.
The organiser provides an event transfer option instead of refunds; transfers to another ATW event are allowed up to 48 hours before the event and do not require proof of reason. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
