Essex 20 Road Race
The Essex 20 is an annual road running event held every March, serving as a preparation race for the marathon season. The event takes place at Debden Airfield on a course consisting of five laps. The route is situated on a disused airfield and features a fast, flat tarmac surface with no sharp corners. Because of the surrounding tree cover, the area typically experiences relatively still wind conditions.
The event offers the following distance:
- 20 miles
This competition hosts the Essex County Road Running Championships and the Inter-counties 20 mile road race championships. Participants entering the championship category must be at least 18 years old and provide a valid England Athletic Affiliation number and the name of an affiliated running club. Registration for the County Championships requires a specific password, which is available through running clubs or the Essex Road race secretary.
The event partners with Alzheimer's Research UK to facilitate charitable fundraising. For those arriving by vehicle, there is ample parking on-site at Debden Airfield for a small fee. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
