Essex 20 - Event overview
The Essex 20 is an annual 20-mile road race held in March. The 2026 event is scheduled for 15/03/2026 at Debden Airfield, Carver Barracks, Water Lane, Wimbish, Saffron Walden CB10 2YA. The course is five laps around a disused airfield on tarmac. It is described as flat with no sharp corners and is often sheltered by surrounding trees, which can reduce wind on most days. The event includes the Inter-counties 20 mile road race championships and the Essex County Road Running Championships.
Logistics and entry
Entry to the County Championship race requires an England Athletics affiliation number for the current affiliation year and the name of the entrant’s England Athletics affiliated running club; entries without this information will not be accepted into the County Championship event. A password is required to book into the County Champs and can be obtained from the entrant’s running club or the Essex road race secretary. There is a separate entry option for those not eligible for the County Champs. Ample parking is available at the venue for a £3 parking fee. The event lists Alzheimer’s Research UK as a partner charity and offers opportunities to donate or fundraise at checkout. ATW’s transfer and refund policy: no refunds or transfers to another person; entrants may transfer their entry to a future ATW event up to 48 hours before the event, with no proof required.
