About the race
The Ellesmere Triathlon takes place at The Mere, Cremorne Gardens, Ellesmere, Shropshire on Saturday 4 September 2027. The event incorporates the UK Triathlon Sprint, Olympic and Middle Championships 2027 and uses the same venue and course layouts for each distance. The course sequence is an open-water freshwater swim in the Mere, a tarmac countryside cycle course and a traffic-free run route that runs alongside the Mere and through woodland trails. The Mere has held the Green Flag Award for 13 consecutive years.
The event is open to individual competitors and to two- or three-person relay teams; relay teams pass an electronic timing chip between teammates in the transition area. Awards are given to the top three overall in open and female categories and to winners in five-year age groups for Sprint, Olympic and Middle distances. Relay awards include first place in the Female Relay Event and first place in the Open/Mixed Category Relay Event. Wetsuit rules: wetsuits are compulsory for Olympic, Olympic Relay, Middle and Middle Relay entries; wetsuits are recommended but not compulsory for Fun Sprint, Sprint and Sprint Relay entries. Competitors receive full race day information by email 7-10 days before the event and collect race numbers and stickers at registration on the day.
