Eklutna IceBreaker
The Eklutna IceBreaker is a 10 Mile out and back trail race held along the frozen shoreline of Eklutna Lake in Chugiak, Alaska, within Chugach State Park. The course follows the lakeside trail for most sections but may be diverted to the upper road or trail where icy or unsafe conditions occur.
Runners should expect a range of March trail conditions, including packed snow, punchy snow, ice sheets, mashed-potato mush, muddy patches, and occasional sunshine. Limited aid is available at the 5 mile turnaround and includes water, grab-and-go snacks, and basic medical support. Medical staff will be on site at the turnaround points.
There is no cell reception at Eklutna Lake. Organizers plan to have a Starlink at the start and finish. InReach devices are noted as useful and the organizers are working on Spot trackers; emergency contact numbers will be provided to participants before the event.
Registration opens November 1, 2026, and closes March 15, 2027; the registration fee is $65.00. A 2027 Alaska State Parks parking pass is required to park at Eklutna Lake. Event finishers receive a long sleeve race T-shirt and a finisher medal; podium awards are given to the top three male and top three female finishers. Registrants who register by February 13, 2027 are guaranteed a race shirt size. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
