Dunstable Downs Half Marathon
The Dunstable Downs Half Marathon is a trail running event held on the National Trust estate at Dunstable Downs, Whipsnade in Bedfordshire. The 2027 edition is the seventh running of the race and takes competitors over 21.2 km with about 450 m+ of elevation on mixed trail surfaces.
The route starts at the National Trust centre and passes the Tree Cathedral, Bison Hill, Kensworth Quarry and Five Knoles, with the lower Downs trails forming the final section. Most elevation is concentrated in the first and last 5 km, with a flatter mid section around the quarry. The course is fully marked with orange arrow markers and ribbons, and marshals are posted at sharp turns and busy areas.
There are two on-route aid stations at approximately 6.7 km and 13.7 km. These stations provide water, Coke, Precision Fuel & Hydration gels and chews, jelly babies and a selection of crisps and sweets. The race is cupless so runners should bring a reusable cup or bottle if they wish to take fluids.
Event facilities at the National Trust Countryside Centre include car parking (£3.50 or free for National Trust members), toilets, a bag drop and an on-site cafe which opens after the race. The event is licensed by the Trail Running Association, held under UKA rules, has a 4 hour time limit and a maximum field of 250 runners. Entry is open to anyone aged 17 or over with no qualifying standards. Finishers receive a medal and timing with live results. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
