Dunedin Rotary Triathlon
The event in Dunedin, Florida, at Honeymoon Island State Park includes triathlon, duathlon and aquabike formats. Distances are listed below for each race format.
- Triathlon: 1/4 mile swim, 12 mile bike, 5K run
- Duathlon: 1 mile run, 12 mile bike, 5K run
- Aquabike: 1/4 mile swim, 12 mile bike
The swim is a triangle course along the middle Honeymoon Island beach. Water depth varies with the tide; water shoes are permitted and a swim cap is provided and must be worn. No artificial propulsion devices are allowed.
The bike course is a 6 mile loop over the Dunedin Causeway draw bridge and around Honeymoon Island, completed twice for the 12 mile distance. Helmets must be fastened before mounting and worn for the entire bike segment. Radios and headsets are not allowed. Passing protocol requires announcing on your left.
Transition areas are timed by RFID chips worn on the left ankle and athletes are timed at multiple points on course. The first run of the duathlon follows parking lot asphalt and a hard packed trail through the Osprey Trailhead. Finisher medals are awarded to all finishers. Awards are given in multiple divisions, including age groups, Athena, Clydesdale, Military/LEO/PSO, Novice, Fat Tire, Adaptive, Special Olympics, relays, and overall categories.
Early packet pickup is available on the days before the race and on race morning. Park entry fees for race day are paid by the Rotary Club of Dunedin. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
