Event Overview
The Drop13 Big Cottonwood Canyon is a running event located in the Salt Lake City area. The race course begins at Solitude Ski Resort and concludes in Cottonwood Heights City. The route descends over 3,000 feet during the journey down the canyon, passing through landscapes featuring spring greenery and a river with seasonal runoff.
Race Options
Participants can choose from several event categories based on their preferred distance and format:
- Half Marathon: A 13.1-mile point-to-point course starting at Solitude Ski Resort.
- 5K: A 3.1-mile out-and-back course starting at the main finish line.
- Virtual Race: An option to complete the distance independently and receive race materials by mail.
Features and Recognition
The event provides specific recognition for various achievements. All finishers receive a 4-inch finisher medal. Participants who achieve a personal record during the half marathon are eligible for a Personal Record (PR) medal. Additionally, the event includes a Drop13lbs medal based on an honor system for those who lose 13 pounds during their training and race participation. Awards are also provided for winners within specific age groups.
The course is designed for speed due to the significant elevation loss over the 13.1-mile distance. For the half marathon, there is a dedicated category for participants who require up to four hours to complete the course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
