Event Overview
The Dr. Ronald E. McNair Memorial 5K is an annual community gathering held in Lake City, South Carolina. Hosted by the Ron McNair Committee, the event focuses on promoting health and physical fitness for participants of all ages. The race course utilizes the city streets of Lake City, starting and finishing near the McNair Life History Center.
Participants can choose from the following event distances:
- 5k run and 1 mile fun walk
- 0.5 miles Kids Fun Run for ages 12 and under
Participation Details
The event is open to the general public with no age restrictions. The atmosphere is inclusive of various needs, as strollers and pets on a leash are permitted on the course. Participants are also allowed to listen to music while running. Registration includes a shirt, with sizes ranging from youth medium to adult 3X, though specific sizes are not guaranteed for those registering on the day of the event.
Awards and Activities
Awards are presented based on gun time for the top finishers. For the 5k, trophies are awarded to the top two overall male and female runners, as well as the top two finishers in several age categories ranging from 12 and under to 60 and over. The 0.5 miles Kids Fun Run recognizes the top three overall male and female finishers.
Alongside the athletic events, a free health fair is held on-site. This fair provides health screenings, vaccinations, and the distribution of health-related information and kits.
