Donuts and Dogs 5K Fun Run/Walk
Donuts and Dogs 5K Fun Run/Walk is scheduled for October 3, 2026 at Southwind Park, 4965 S 2nd St, Springfield, Illinois. The event benefits the Animal Protective League (APL) and offers timed and untimed participation options.
Options include a timed 5K run and a 5K fun run/walk that welcomes canine companions. There is also a non-running "Cat Napper" category for supporters who prefer not to attend in person; Cat Napper supporters receive a personalized thank you card from an APL dog or cat. Registration opens March 16 and closes in early October. Standard fees listed are $30 for adults and $15 for children 12 and under. Participants may set up individual or team fundraisers to raise additional money for APL. All participants receive a participation medal; prizes are awarded in overall adult male and female, first male and female 12 and under, and overall canine categories.
The event day includes vendors, a costume contest, an award presentation, and on-course donuts provided by Mel-O-Cream before the run. Race packet distribution is scheduled the day before at APL, 1001 Taintor Road, with limited packet pick-up available on race day and no on-site registration.
Runners bringing dogs must ensure their animals are sociable and well behaved, have up-to-date vaccinations with proof of current rabies vaccine, be leashed at all times, and be at least four months old. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
