Dogtown Races
Dogtown Races offers multiple running events in late January, including a half marathon, a new 10K, a 5K, and a kids run. The half course is described as more runner friendly while still including trail sections and descents.
- Half Marathon, starting at 193 N Old Highway 91 in Hurricane.
- 10K, starting and finishing at Sullivan Soccer Park.
- 5K, starting and finishing at Sullivan Soccer Park.
- Kids Run, held at Sullivan Soccer Park.
The half marathon route heads west from the starting line, turns onto Foothills Drive, and descends into the Coral Canyon subdivision. Runners cross under SR-9 to Coral Canyon Boulevard, continue on E. Grasslands Parkway and Coral Canyon Trail up to Highland Parkway, pass through Highland Park, and use the Highland South Loop trail. The course then follows Telegraph and Landfill Road, turns onto a dirt trail to the Cottonwood Trail trailhead, and includes a fast, steep descent to the Virgin River. Around mile 11.8 the route turns toward the Virgin River Boardwalk and Sullivan Park, and the finish is reached by crossing the grass just past the fishing pond at Sullivan Park.
The kids run is organized by the City Youth Council. Registration by January 15 guarantees a race shirt and metal. The Dogtown Half is a qualifying event for the Utah Half and Full Marathon Series. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
