Event overview
The Dirty Dog Trail Run is the 17th annual edition of a multi-distance trail event in Midland City Forest, Midland, MI (2840 E. Monroe Rd). Distances offered include:
- 10K Run
- 5K Run/Walk
- 1 mile walk
The event allows participants to run with or without dogs. The race uses chip timing provided by Miller Race Management. Awards are given following the race. The event takes place rain or shine; in the event of thunder or lightning the run will be postponed and participants asked to wait in their vehicles until it is safe to resume.
Course and logistics
The course runs on unpaved two-track and single-track trails through Midland City Forest, a 520-acre preserve of woods, creeks, marshes, and bridges. The 1 mile walk follows a flat, unpaved route through the woods. A mid-course water station will be provided, and fruit, snacks, and water will be available after the race. Packet pickup is available the evening before the event and on race morning at Midland City Forest. Pre-registration offers an option to purchase a shirt for $10; shirts are not guaranteed for late or same-day registrants. Same-day registration is available on race morning.
Safety, dogs, and charity
All dogs must be kept on leashes. Organizers ask handlers to be mindful of each dog’s limits and to minimize dog-to-dog interactions. Proceeds support Shelterhouse and SOS Animal Rescue for pet-related sheltering, foster, food, and spay/neuter assistance. If the event is canceled, registrations will be converted to a virtual format and no refunds will be issued. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
