Death by 5k Albuquerque
Death by 5k Albuquerque is a RunStrong Events 24 hour challenge held at Balloon Fiesta Park in Albuquerque on June 5-6, 2027. The format asks each participant to complete ten 5 km runs, with each 5 km starting 2.5 hours after the previous one. Runners must be present at the start of each 5 km and finish that 5 km before the next one begins. The full effort totals 50 km.
The route uses paved roads and multi use paths in and adjacent to the park. Night running and sleep deprivation are expected parts of the challenge, so participants must use headlamps, hand lights, or another form of illumination. Between runs participants may sleep in vehicles or set up tents on the grass field adjacent to the pavilions and the race headquarters tent; there is space for pop up and camping tents. Prepared meals are provided at scheduled times, with snacks, water and mixed Gatorade available throughout the event. Participants receive an event shirt and additional race items, and finishers receive a coffin shaped award. Registration is initially limited to 175 participants, after which a waitlist will be used and additional spots may open.
