24 Hour Challenge

Death by 5k Albuquerque returns for its third edition at Balloon Fiesta Park. This event is a 24-hour endurance challenge that requires participants to complete ten separate 5 km runs. One 5 km segment starts every 2.5 hours over the course of a full day and night.

The schedule includes runs starting at 8:00, 10:30, 13:00, 15:30, 18:00, 20:30, 23:00, 01:30, 04:00, and 06:30. Participants must be at the starting line for every interval and must finish each 5 km lap before the next one begins. Because several segments take place at night, all runners are required to use a headlamp, hand light, or another form of illumination.

The course consists of paved roads and multi-use paths located within and adjacent to the park. Between runs, participants can rest in their vehicles or set up tents in a grass field next to the race headquarters. There is space available for both pop-up and camping tents.

Organizers provide water, Gatorade, and snacks throughout the event. Prepared food is served four times during the challenge. Registration is initially limited to 175 participants, with a waitlist available if the limit is reached. Finishers receive an event shirt, race swag, and a coffin-themed award. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
