Dash for the Derby 5K
The Dash for the Derby 5K is a road race held on Kentucky Derby Day in Portland, Maine, with the start and finish at Marathon Sports, 309 Marginal Way. The course distance is 5K (3.1 miles). Walkers are welcome.
Registration uses tiered fees: $28 wicked early bird pre-registration by September 30, $32 early bird through February 28, $35 thereafter, and $39 race day. Registrants by April 1 are guaranteed a race singlet while supplies last.
The event offers cash prizes for overall winners and awards in age groups and team categories. Course records are listed at 15:44 for the male record and 19:17 for the female record. Race packet pickup and on-site registration take place at Marathon Sports.
Participants are asked to use the park and ride on Marginal Way to leave parking spaces for Marathon Sports customers. Post-race refreshments and an awards ceremony are held at Marathon Sports following the race.
No refunds are offered. In the event of catastrophic weather, a public health crisis, or other extreme events beyond race management control, organizers will attempt to hold the race on an alternate date. If that is not possible, the event will be converted to a virtual format in which participants run the course and submit their results independently.
