Event Overview
The 8th annual Dash for Down Syndrome 5K Run/Walk is organized by the Down Syndrome Network of Greater Greensboro (DSNGG). It is held in honor of World Down Syndrome Day, which is recognized on March 21. The event includes a 5K run/walk, an "Extra Special Dashers" category for individuals with Down syndrome, and a "Spirit Runner" option for those who only want the event t-shirt.
Event Details
The event takes place at LeBauer Park in Greensboro, North Carolina. The race features an extra 0.1-mile "dash" added to the traditional 5K (3.1-mile) distance, creating a total distance of 3.21 miles. This unique distance honors the third copy of the 21st chromosome present in people with Down syndrome. Official race times are recorded at the standard 5K finish line, with the additional dash being a symbolic, non-timed segment.
Participants are encouraged to take part in the "Lots of Socks" awareness campaign by wearing brightly colored, long, or mismatched socks.
What's Included
Registration includes a race t-shirt (guaranteed for those who register before March 3rd), medals for the first 300 finishers, awards for top overall and age group winners, and free snacks and entertainment.
Beneficiary
All event proceeds benefit the Down Syndrome Network of Greater Greensboro. The funds support programs for individuals with Down syndrome and their families, including welcome bags for new parents, educational workshops, and financial assistance for medical or therapeutic services.
