Dare to Scare 5k

Events and format
The Dare to Scare event includes a 5k run/walk, a Sweet Treat Fun Run, and a VIRTUAL Dare to Scare 5k. The 5k is a point-to-point course that begins at the Coastal Studies Institute in Wanchese and finishes at the Virginia S. Tillett Community Center (VTCC) in Manteo. The fun run begins and finishes at the VTCC. Medals are provided for all participants. Awards will be given to the top three male and top three female finishers of the 5k. The fun run includes a medal and additional event swag.
Location and logistics
The VTCC address is 950 Marshall C. Collins Drive, Manteo, NC 27954. The 5k start location is the Coastal Studies Institute at 850 NC-345, Wanchese, NC 27981. Pre-race transportation will be provided for participants who park at the finish and need a ride to the start; there will be no return trips from the VTCC to CSI. Vehicle access to the Coastal Studies Institute will be restricted while runners are on course and volunteers will manage traffic and area closures.
Registration, shirts and packet pick up
Event entries list set prices for each event category. Shirts are long sleeve and quantities are limited; participants who register earlier are more likely to receive a shirt. Packet pick up and distribution of bibs, shirts and swag are handled at the Virginia S. Tillett Community Center, with bib pick up also available at the 5k start registration table when needed.
Virtual participants
Virtual participants may complete the 5k on an honor system and may submit official times through the event page. Medals for virtual entries are mailed to participants after the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
