Dare to Scare 5k & Sweet Treat Fun Run
The Dare to Scare 5k & Sweet Treat Fun Run is a point-to-point race held in Manteo and Wanchese, North Carolina. The event takes place rain or shine and offers multiple participation options, including a timed 5k run or walk and a separate fun run. Participants are encouraged to take part in the costume contest held during the festivities.
The 5k distance follows a route starting at the Coastal Studies Institute in Wanchese and finishing at the Virginia S. Tillett Community Center in Manteo. To assist with logistics, pre-race transportation is available for runners who park their vehicles at the finish line located within the Dare County Government Complex lots. The Sweet Treat Fun Run is a shorter event that both starts and finishes at the Virginia S. Tillett Community Center.

Awards are presented to the top three male and female finishers in the 5k, as well as winners of the costume contest. All participants receive a medal. Registration includes a long-sleeve shirt if completed by the specified deadline in mid-September. Virtual participants can complete their run at any location and submit their times online. Pre-race festivities are organized at both the Coastal Studies Institute for 5k participants and at the Tillett Community Center for Fun Run participants and spectators.
