Event
The Dare to Scare event in Manteo, North Carolina features a 5k run/walk, a Sweet Treat Fun Run, and a virtual 5k option. It is scheduled for Saturday, October 24, 2026. The in-person program is described as rain or shine. Medals are provided for participants and awards are planned for the top three male and top three female finishers of the 5k, plus top costume contest winners.
Location and logistics
The 5k begins at the Coastal Studies Institute (850 NC-345, Wanchese, NC) and finishes at the Virginia S. Tillett Community Center (VTCC, 950 Marshall C. Collins Drive, Manteo, NC). The fun run both begins and finishes at the VTCC. Pre-race festivities for the 5k are held at CSI and fun run pre-race activities are held at VTCC. Event organizers recommend parking at the finish and using provided pre-race transportation to the 5k start for those who park at the finish. Vehicles will not be allowed to leave the Coastal Studies Institute parking lot until the last runner or walker has cleared the area.
Entry and packet information
Listed event prices include $40 for the Dare to Scare 5k and $15 for the Sweet Treat Fun Run and virtual 5k (as shown in event listings). Packet pickup and bib procedures are handled at the Virginia S. Tillett Community Center and at the CSI start area on race day; race packets include any materials provided by sponsors.
