Killer Dunes 2-Mile Run and Color Fun Run
The Killer Dunes events take place at Jockey's Ridge State Park on July 2, 2027. Outer Banks Sporting Events organizes a timed 2 mile dune run and a 1 mile color fun run held in celebration of Jockey's Ridge State Park's 50th anniversary. Proceeds benefit Friends of Jockey's Ridge, a local nonprofit that supports the park.

The 2 mile course is on the sand of Jockey's Ridge, the tallest natural sand dune system in the eastern United States. Course markings and guides will be visible throughout, though the exact route can vary year to year with vegetation changes. Precision Racing will provide professional timing. A water station will be near the midpoint and Dare County EMS will be on call. Strollers and pets are not allowed. On-site parking is limited.
Packet pick-up is available at Jockey's Ridge State Park on July 1 and July 2, with Thursday pick-up offering event swag. Last-minute packet pick-up closes on Friday morning. Awards for the 2 mile go to the top three males and top three females overall and to the top three finishers in each age group. Post-race food and beer are available for registered participants. A 10 percent discount applies for active US military and veterans. Volunteer and sponsor opportunities are available. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
