Flying Pirate half marathon
The Flying Pirate Half Marathon takes place in coastal North Carolina, centered around the towns of Kill Devil Hills and Kitty Hawk. The event features multiple distances and focuses on the scenic coastal landscape of the Outer Banks.
The courses are primarily flat as the region is at sea level, though participants will encounter some rolling terrain through the Kitty Hawk area. The half marathon course begins and concludes at the historical Wright Brothers National Memorial. The route passes through several residential neighborhoods, offering views of the Albemarle Sound and the Atlantic Ocean.

For those seeking an additional challenge, the Double Dare Challenge involves completing the Half Marathon in addition to either the 5 km or 8 km race.
The event includes a pirate-themed costume contest where bike marshals and sponsors act as judges. Participants should note that strollers and pets are not permitted on the course. There is no packet pick-up available on race day. A post-race beer garden is open to participants who present a photo ID or a specific band obtained during packet pick-up.
