Event Information
The Flying Pirate Half Marathon is a 13.1-mile race. The weekend also features a Fun Run, a 5K, and an 8K. Participants can choose a single race or take on the Double Dare Challenge by running the half marathon plus either the 5K or 8K.
Course and Location
The event takes place on the Outer Banks in North Carolina. The half marathon course starts and finishes at the Wright Brothers National Memorial in Kill Devil Hills. The route goes through neighborhoods in Kill Devil Hills and Kitty Hawk, passing along the Albemarle Sound and offering views of the sound and the Atlantic Ocean. The terrain in Kitty Hawk is described as rolling. The overall course is noted as mainly flat, as the Outer Banks is at sea level.
Additional Details
There is a costume contest for participants wearing pirate-themed attire. Packet pickup is at St. Andrew's By-the-Sea Episcopal Church in Nags Head; there is no race-day packet pickup. Parking is at the First Flight Schools Complex in Kill Devil Hills. Strollers and pets are not permitted in the race. A photo ID or a special beer band is required for entry into the post-race beer garden; beer bands can be obtained during packet pickup.
