Outer Banks Freedom 5k/1 Mile & Little Sparkler Fun Run
The Outer Banks Freedom 5k is an annual community event held in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, in celebration of American Independence. The event features a variety of distances to accommodate different ages and preferences, with all races starting and finishing at the Kill Devil Hills Town Hall in front of the Town War Memorial.
The event includes the following distances:
- 5 km (SUN Realty Freedom 5k)
- 1 mile (SUN Realty Freedom 1 mile)
- 1/4 mile (Little Sparkler Fun Run), open specifically to children aged 10 and under.
Participants receive an event t-shirt and a unique finisher medal. The 5k and 1 mile races are professionally chip-timed, and results are shared with contestants via email and posted online. The 5k course is documented with a map and Garmin data for participants to review in advance.
Unique awards are presented to the top male and female winners, including the first through third place overall finishers, the first through third place masters winners (those over 40), and the top finishers in age group increments of 10 years, starting from under 10. Following the run, a post-race celebration takes place featuring watermelon, pastries, and other light refreshments. The entry fee also covers event photography and snacks.
